Is buying an older horse a bad idea for a first time owner?
Ive worked with several horses over 20 and they were very good for the novice rider I was. Older horses tend to be better trained and less reactive than younger horses and can do well if worked appropriately. Ive loved the ones I worked with, especially the 22 YO QH mare that I rode as a raw beginner. She lived with Cushings and made it to 26, active all the way. I would have been happy to own her, she was a real sweetheart. That said you need to be aware that the horse wont have the athlet...
